I find myself back in school at the age of 60. What am I doing here? I have the perfect job (library assistant), I'm at a good point in my life with my children grown and out of the house, and I am relatively comfortable financially. You would think that I have reached a point where I can relax and enjoy life. Instead, on some subconscious level I must have masochistic tendencies because I enrolled in school, again, to obtain my bachelor's degree in library science. Apparently I also have overachiever issues as well since this will be my third degree. Oh well, onward and upward as they say.
Thanks to my LIS 457 class I am creating a blog. This blog to be precise. Funny thing is, this is not the first blog I have been required to do and each time I find myself actually glad for the requirement. I like blogging. I guess that along with my masochistic tendencies and my over achievement issues I also like to hear myself talk. Or, in this case, see myself type. I'm sure there is a psychologist somewhere out there rubbing his hands together and waiting patiently for me to walk through his door.
Now, less about me and more about the blog. Hopefully if anyone is reading this they will get a glimpse inside library world. I work in a small academic library for a medium-size community college. There are three branches of this college, each a fair distance from one another. I work in the smallest library in perhaps the smallest branch. And it's wonderful. I love the atmosphere, I love the students, I love the faculty and staff, and I dearly love the one and only librarian I work with. So far it has been a very rewarding experience. I am hoping to offer some insight into the world of librarianship from the viewpoint of an assistant.
Important library assistant task: Keep the library interesting!
